Common use

Diagnosis should be confirmed via potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparation or fungal culture to ensure appropriate antifungal selection, as misuse can lead to treatment failure or delayed resolution.
Dosage and direction
Apply a thin layer of Mentax cream to cover the affected area and approximately 1 inch of the surrounding healthy skin once daily. For tinea pedis, the typical treatment duration is 4 weeks. For tinea corporis and tinea cruris, treatment is typically 2 weeks. The area should be clean and thoroughly dry before application. Gently massage the cream into the skin until it is absorbed. Wash hands immediately after application, unless the hands are the treated area. Even if symptoms improve early, complete the full course of therapy to prevent relapse.
Precautions
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nostrils, mouth, and other mucous membranes. Do not use on open wounds, severely inflamed, or exudative skin. Use with caution in patients with known sensitivity to any of the formulation’s ingredients. If irritation or hypersensitivity develops, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider. Do not use occlusive dressings unless directed by a physician, as they may increase systemic absorption and risk of irritation. The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 12 years of age have not been established.
Contraindications
Mentax is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to butenafine hydrochloride or any other component of the formulation. There are no other known absolute contraindications for topical use, given its minimal systemic absorption.
Possible side effect
While generally well-tolerated, the following local reactions have been reported:

Drug interaction

Missed dose
If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely due to the formulation and method of application. Accidental ingestion may lead to systemic effects. Symptoms of oral ingestion could include gastrointestinal distress (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) and potential central nervous system effects. In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Excursions are permitted between 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the tube and carton.
