Flixotide Nasal Spray 100 Doses is a prescription corticosteroid spray designed for the management of allergic rhinitis symptoms. It contains fluticasone propionate, a potent anti-inflammatory agent that targets nasal inflammation at its source. This formulation provides consistent, long-term control of symptoms such as sneezing, congestion, and nasal itching. Suitable for adults and children aged 4 years and above, it offers a non-sedating, localized treatment option with minimal systemic absorption.
Features
- Contains 100 metered doses of fluticasone propionate (50 mcg per spray)
- Delivers consistent, precise dosing via a calibrated pump mechanism
- Alcohol-free and preservative-free formulation
- Designed for intranasal administration with minimal systemic exposure
- Compatible with long-term daily use under medical supervision
Benefits
- Provides rapid and sustained relief from nasal allergy symptoms, often within 12 hours of initial use
- Reduces inflammation at the mucosal level, addressing the underlying cause of allergic rhinitis
- Non-drowsy formula allows for unimpaired daytime function
- Prevents recurrence of symptoms with regular use, improving quality of life during allergy seasons
- Minimizes the need for oral antihistamines or decongestants
Common use
Flixotide Nasal Spray is primarily indicated for the prophylactic and symptomatic treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is also used off-label in certain cases of non-allergic rhinitis and nasal polyposis, under specialist guidance. Patients typically use it during high-pollen seasons or year-round in cases of persistent allergens such as dust mites or pet dander.
Dosage and direction
Adults and adolescents (12 years and older):
Initiate with 2 sprays (100 mcg total) into each nostril once daily. Maintenance dose may be reduced to 1 spray per nostril daily once symptoms are controlled.
Children (4–11 years):
1 spray (50 mcg) into each nostril once daily. Do not exceed this dose without pediatric consultation.
Administration:
Shake gently before use. Prime the pump before first use by spraying into the air until a fine mist appears. Tilt head slightly forward, insert nozzle into nostril, and spray away from the nasal septum. Breathe in gently through the nose. Avoid blowing nose immediately after administration.
Precautions
- Not recommended for use in children under 4 years of age
- Use with caution in patients with recent nasal surgery, nasal trauma, or nasal ulcers
- Monitor for signs of localized fungal infections (e.g., candidiasis) with long-term use
- Systemic effects are rare but possible at high doses or in susceptible individuals; monitor adrenal function in prolonged high-dose therapy
- Not intended for relief of acute bronchospasm
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fluticasone propionate or any excipients
- Active or quiescent untreated tuberculosis infections
- Untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral systemic infections
- Ocular herpes simplex
Possible side effects
Common (≥1/100):
- Mild nasal irritation or burning sensation
- Epistaxis (nosebleeds)
- Headache
- Unpleasant taste
Uncommon (≥1/1000):
- Nasal septum perforation (with prolonged improper use)
- Pharyngitis
- Cough
Rare (<1/1000):
- Glaucoma or cataracts (with long-term high-dose use)
- Adrenal suppression
- Anaphylaxis (extremely rare)
Drug interaction
- Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir) may increase systemic exposure to fluticasone
- No clinically significant interactions with antihistamines or decongestants
- Use with other nasal corticosteroids may increase risk of local adverse effects
Missed dose
If a dose is missed, administer as soon as remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed administration. Resume regular dosing schedule.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely due to low systemic bioavailability. Single excessive doses are not expected to cause harm. Chronic overdose may lead to systemic corticosteroid effects such as hypercortisolism or adrenal suppression. Treatment is supportive; consider monitoring adrenal function if excessive chronic use is suspected.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15–30°C). Do not freeze. Keep the bottle upright and protected from light. Discard 3 months after first opening, even if not entirely used. Keep out of reach of children.

Reviews
Clinical studies demonstrate significant improvement in nasal symptom scores compared to placebo. In a 6-week randomized trial, 78% of patients reported ≥50% reduction in congestion and sneezing. Pediatric studies show similar efficacy with favorable safety profile. Long-term users report sustained symptom control with minimal side effects when used as directed.
