Atorlip 10 contains atorvastatin calcium, a trusted active ingredient clinically proven to significantly reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. This medication is indicated for patients requiring pharmacological intervention to manage hyperlipidemia and lower cardiovascular risk. Proper use under medical supervision can help stabilize lipid profiles and support long-term vascular wellness.

Features

  • Active ingredient: Atorvastatin calcium 10 mg
  • HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin class)
  • Tablet form for oral administration
  • Manufactured under strict pharmaceutical quality standards
  • Available in blister packs of 30 tablets

Benefits

  • Lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol by up to 50% with consistent use
  • Reduces triglyceride levels and modestly increases HDL (good) cholesterol
  • Decreases risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular events
  • Helps stabilize atherosclerotic plaques
  • Supports long-term cardiovascular health maintenance
  • Provides predictable lipid-lowering effects with once-daily dosing

Common use

Atorlip 10 is primarily prescribed for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet when response to dietary restriction of saturated fat and cholesterol and other nonpharmacological measures has been inadequate. The medication is also used in patients with mixed dyslipidemia and for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in individuals with multiple risk factors.

Dosage and direction

The recommended starting dose is 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. Patients requiring large LDL-C reductions (more than 45%) may start at 40 mg daily. The dosage range is 10-80 mg once daily. Tablets may be taken at any time of day, with or without food. Consistency in dosing time is recommended. Dosage adjustments should be made at intervals of 2-4 weeks based on lipid response and tolerance.

Precautions

Liver function tests should be performed before initiation and periodically during treatment. Patients should report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness promptly. Use with caution in patients consuming substantial quantities of alcohol or with history of liver disease. Blood glucose levels should be monitored as statins may increase HbA1c and fasting serum glucose levels. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases. Hypersensitivity to any component of this medication. Pregnancy, lactation, and women of childbearing potential not using contraception. Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, HIV protease inhibitors, or clarithromycin.

Possible side effects

Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, joint pain, and insomnia. Musculoskeletal side effects may include myalgia, arthralgia, and muscle spasms. Elevated liver enzymes occur in approximately 0.7% of patients. Rare but serious side effects include rhabdomyolysis with renal dysfunction, hepatitis, and hypersensitivity reactions. Pancreatitis and memory impairment have been reported in some cases.

Drug interaction

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (clarithromycin, itraconazole, HIV protease inhibitors) increase atorvastatin exposure. Concomitant use with gemfibrozil increases risk of myopathy. Cyclosporine, niacin, colchicine, and fibrates may increase risk of myopathy. Oral contraceptives containing norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol increase in AUC. Digoxin levels may be increased. May increase warfarin anticoagulant effect—monitor INR carefully.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one. Resume the regular dosing schedule. Consistent daily dosing is important for maintaining stable lipid levels, but occasional missed doses are not critical for long-term efficacy.

Overdose

There is no specific antidote for atorvastatin overdose. In case of suspected overdose, provide supportive treatment and symptomatic care. Liver function and CPK levels should be monitored. Hemodialysis is not expected to significantly enhance clearance as atorvastatin is extensively protein bound.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15-30°C) in original container. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after expiration date printed on packaging. Tablets should not be removed from blister packs until immediately before use.

Reviews

Clinical studies demonstrate Atorlip 10’s efficacy in reducing LDL-C by 39-60% depending on dosage. The ASCOT-LLA study showed 36% reduction in fatal and non-fatal coronary events. Patients report satisfactory lipid control with once-daily dosing. Medical professionals appreciate its well-established safety profile and predictable pharmacokinetics. Long-term data supports sustained efficacy in cardiovascular risk reduction when combined with lifestyle modifications.
